SAC (Standardization Administration of China) announced on August 30 that a national terrestrial digital TV standard had been approved on August 18, 2006, and will be implemented across the nation starting August 1, 2007. The standard, coded GB20600-2006, is the unification of Tsinghua University's DMB-T and Shanghai Jiao Tong University's ADTB-T standards. Terrestrial digital TV equipment, both fixed and mobile devices, failing to comply with this standard will be prohibited on market. However, this standard does not apply to mobile handheld devices.
